A five-string that doesn’t feel like work

The Pitpit Five is made for anyone who doesn’t want to give up the low B-string—but isn’t looking for a bulky instrument. No need to adapt, no extra effort—just a five-string that feels right from the start.

Easy to take with you, easy to play

The Pitpit Five was designed with compact professional rigs in mind: it’s light, well-balanced, and offers just the right amount of depth for modern setups. The weight is low, the shape ergonomic, and even with a pedalboard and gig bag, everything stays easy to carry. Ideal if you play regularly, travel a lot, or just want a setup that works without fuss.

More definition on the low string

The 32-inch scale adds tension and clarity to the low B string—especially compared to short scale instruments. At the same time, the familiar 18 mm string spacing gives you enough room for any technique without feeling awkward. Perfect if you’re moving from four to five strings or just want a versatile, workhorse instrument.

Two options, two sonic directions

The Pitpit Five is available in two pickup versions—whether you’re after a punchy, modern sound or prefer something more direct and raw.

451 | Humbuckers

The two humbuckers deliver a powerful, deep sound with plenty of low-end—quiet, warm, and present. If you play modern styles—fusion, rock, progressive genres—this is a solid foundation. The pickup selector expands your options with interesting in-between positions that also work well for cleaner or more percussive playing.

Medium or long scale strings do fit

The Pitpit Five is flexible when it comes to strings. You can run standard medium scale strings through the bridge, or thread long scale strings through the body from the back—both options work smoothly. This not only makes it easier to use your preferred strings, but also allows you to tailor the setup to your needs. Especially handy if you have a favorite set you always go back to.

Roundwound recommendation

Every Pitpit Five leaves the workshop strung with Jim Dunlop Super Bright Medium (40–120) medium scale roundwound strings as standard. These strings deliver a clear, punchy sound, are easy to play, and are a great fit for the scale length and character of this bass.

Flatwound recommendation

If you prefer a smoother tone and a silky feel, we recommend the Dunlop Flatwound DBFS45125M (45–125) for medium scale five-string basses. These strings deliver a controlled low end, warm highs, and stay comfortable even during long sessions.

Other strings

In general, many long scale strings work well on the Pitpit Five—just thread them through the body (string-through-body). For example, D’Addario EXL170-5TP (45–130) and Elixir Nanoweb Nickel Wound 14202 (045–130) have proven to be good choices.

The travel-friendly five-string

Even though the Pitpit Five has a longer scale length than the four-string version, the instrument itself is just as compact. The redesigned headstock and repositioned bridge make it possible—the overall length is still 1091 mm. So you get a bass with a low B-string that still fits in a regular electric guitar gig bag. Perfect if you’re on the road a lot or like to keep your setup streamlined.

The weight is low—thanks to lightweight alder and compact tuners—and the body shape makes sure the strings sit comfortably high when you’re seated. That takes the strain off your fretting hand and makes long sessions or rehearsals much more relaxed. Even when standing, the bass just feels right—no neck dive, nothing pulling on your shoulder.
